Course Members – “The US sneezes and the rest of the world catches a cold,” is an old saying that seemed to be anachronistic; however, the current US Economic problem grew into a global financial crisis of incredible proportions. An old thought, this type of global thinking always was true. Will our “New America First” foreign policy change the thinking? – What can be learned? How does it change our perspective of global trade and finances? And, what does it foretell for the future? Please respond to this discussion : 2. The United Nations (UN) is one of the well known international organization founded since 1945, pledge for maintaining international peace and security; also committed to developing social progress, and improve living standards around the world. “The work of the United Nations touches every corner of the globe and focuses on a broad range of fundamental issues, like sustainable development, protection of the environment and refugees, disaster relief and mitigation, counter-terrorism, as well as disarmament and non-proliferation.” (Ogawa, 2019, para. 3).            Moreover, the UN is a formed council of 193 members that provide services with its various body councils and committees. In-depth, they have an agenda of a total of 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). Naming the few includes ending poverty, secure food, education, healthy living, infrastructure, gender equality, and minimize inequality between countries. Also, access to modern energy systems, economic development, world safety, and protect environmental resources.           Further, the UN has significant influence when dealing with the issues of state sovereignty for its member countries. Within keeping it’s embedded power of globalization, it provides strength and authority to its states to work for good faith for their citizens. Alongside the UN’s support, the “international law facilitates and regulates relations among sovereign and independent states whose interaction might otherwise be chaotic.” (Magstadt, 2017, p. 564).          Besides, “the UN’s legitimacy is based in its universal membership, and to fulfill its function of facilitating diplomacy and the quest for multilateral solutions to global problems, it must represent its entire membership and remain impartial among its members.” (Lupel, 2013, para. 9).  Moreover, many of the world problems are dutifully resolved by the UN; also provides strength and support as crutches by effectively maintaining its established goals. Furthermore, strict laws and unbiased fundamental principles by the UN make its ideology with authority to control; “nothing more, nothing less.”          With the UN’s stronghold establishment and achieving many milestones so far; it is still determined to continue to serve for the best of this globe. In addition, the UN celebrated the international democratic day to seek answers in the changing world. “Thus, it is altogether fitting to take the International Day of Democracy as an occasion to reflect upon how far we have come and upon how far we have to go and to remind the world, and the UN itself, that the commitment to advancing democracy is indeed at the very heart of the UN mission and all that it stands for.” (Lupel, 2013, para. 10). Further, the strains of democracy are higher than ever; and includes more democracies to be innovative and merge to face challenges of the world with the UN.    References Lupel, A.
